Renowned actress Kavita Chaudhary, known for her iconic portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the Doordarshan series Udaan, passed away at the age of 67 in Amritsar after suffering a heart attack on Thursday.
The news was confirmed by her nephew, Ajay Sayal, who revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to low blood pressure.
“She passed away following cardiac arrest last night around 8.30 pm in Amritsar at the hospital. She was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to low blood pressure. Her condition became critical later,” Sayal said in a statement given to a leading publication.
Beyond her illustrious acting career, Kavita Chaudhary made significant contributions as a director, producer, writer and anchor. She created the Indian television series ‘Your Honour,’ which aired on DD National in 2000, showcasing her versatility both behind and in front of the camera.
The multi-talented artist also hosted ‘IPS Diaries,’ a crime-based show on Doordarshan since October 2015. In the series, Chaudhary played the role of a retired cop, presenting true crime stories to the audience.
Chaudhary’s contribution to Indian television and advertising was significant. Apart from her impactful role in Udaan, she became a household name as Lalita ji in the late 1980s through her portrayal in HUL’s Surf detergent commercials.
The veteran actress’s funeral took place on Friday, marking the end of an era in Indian television and advertising. As the industry and fans mourn the loss of a talented artist, Kavita Chaudhary’s legacy will undoubtedly be remembered with fondness and respect. May she rest in peace.
