Music composer and singer Amaal Mallik has finally broken his silence inside the Bigg Boss 19 house about the viral post he made in March this year, where he announced cutting ties with his family and revealed his struggle with depression.
During a candid conversation with actor-writer Zeishan Quadri inside the Bigg Boss house, Amaal shared what led him to make such a shocking announcement.
Amaal on His Viral Post and Depression
Speaking openly, Amaal said, “Maine ek post daali thi jo internet par kaafi viral ho gayi ki main depression mein tha aur apni family se maine ties cut off kar li. Ek identity crisis mehsoos hone lag gayi thi. Gaane sab bana raha tha main but mujhe koi puchta hi nahi tha.” (I had made a post that went quite viral on the internet saying that I was in depression and had cut off ties with my family. I had started feeling an identity crisis. I was making all the songs, but nobody was giving me or my work, any value.)
He revealed that unlike his younger brother Armaan Malik, he often felt ignored. However, he clarified, “Armaan ne kabhi mujhe feel nahi karaya ki main star hoon aur tu nahi hai. Chota mera bete jaisa hai, usse koi aisi feeling nahi hai.” (Armaan never made me feel that he is a star and I am not. The younger one is like my son, he doesn’t have any such attitude.)
Amaal further explained that the viral post was triggered by a long-standing argument with his mother. “Woh post mera iss point par aaya ki mummy se uss din argument ho rahi thi, bahut badi aur saalon se chal rahi thi toh maine post daal diya ki mera kuch relation nahi hai. Main jo bolta hun woh mere shabd hain kyunki mere tweet karne se ya mere bolne se koi pange Armaan se le raha hai, papa ko kuch bol rahe hain, mummy ki upbringing par sawaal uth rahe hain,” he added.
(That post of mine came at a point when I was having an argument with my mom that day, a very big one which had been going on for years. I ended up posting that I have no relation. What I say are my own words, but just because I tweet or say something, people start picking fights with Armaan, saying things to dad, and questioning mom’s upbringing.)
On the Personal Turmoil Behind His Decision
Opening up further, Amaal shared that multiple personal setbacks pushed him into a dark phase. “My dog passed away, and I went through a serious breakup. All of that turmoil rolled up and came out on the internet. Life is a fight every single day—sometimes mornings feel good, but by evening, it feels bad again,” he said.
For the unversed, in March this year, Amaal had posted an emotional note on social media announcing his decision to distance himself from his family. In that post, he wrote that he had been “clinically depressed” and that the actions of his parents had created a rift between him and his brother Armaan.
He had then stated, “Today, with a heavy heart, I announce that I am stepping away from these personal ties. From now on, my interactions with my family will be strictly professional. This isn’t a decision made in anger, but one born from the necessity to heal and reclaim my life.”
