Today marks 49 years since the declaration of Emergency in India, a period often referred to as the darkest days of Indian democracy. Commemorating this significant chapter in history, Bollywood actress and filmmaker Kangana Ranaut has announced the new release date of her upcoming film, Emergency.

The film, which delves into the Emergency period imposed in 1975 by former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, will hit theaters on September 6, 2024.

Kangana, who not only produces but also stars in the film as Indira Gandhi, shared a new poster on Instagram.

The post was captioned, “The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent Indiaโ€™s Darkest Chapter, Announcing #KanganaRanautโ€™s #Emergency In Cinemas on 6th September 2024. The Explosive Saga of The Most Controversial Episode of The History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide.”

The film features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik. Directed and written by Kangana herself, Emergency was initially slated for release on November 24, 2023, but was postponed to June 14, 2024, due to Kanganaโ€™s busy schedule.

The release date was further shifted as Kangana, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh. She took oath as a Member of Parliament on June 24, 2024.
