Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has finally won his first-ever National Award for Best Actor for his 2023 film Jawan. After a glorious journey of 33 years in Indian cinema, this honor marks a deeply emotional and proud moment for both SRK and his millions of fans around the world.
On August 1st, the 71st National Film Awards were announced, and Shah Rukh’s name was among the most talked-about winners. Known as the Baadshah of Bollywood, the actor has delivered countless iconic performances, but this is the first time he has received a National Award — the most prestigious film award in India.
Shortly after the announcement, SRK took to Instagram and posted a video message, expressing his overwhelming emotions. He said, “To be honored with a National Award is a moment I will cherish for a lifetime. This award is not just an achievement, it’s a reminder that what I do, matters.”
He thanked his 2023 film directors Raju Hirani (Dunki), Siddharth Anand (Pathaan) and especially Atlee, who directed Jawan, for believing in him. Shah Rukh also gave a special shout out to his team, his wife Gauri Khan, and his children, calling them his biggest supporters. He lovingly said, “They treat me like the kid in the house and only want the best for me.”
SRK dedicated the award to his loyal fanbase, saying, “This award is for you. Thank you for all the cheers and all the tears. Just keep the popcorn ready – I’ll be back in theatres soon.” He signed off the video with his signature arms-wide-open pose, this time using only one hand due to a recent injury on the set of his upcoming film King.

Released in 2023, Jawan was one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Directed by Atlee, the film featured Shah Rukh Khan in a powerful dual role. Packed with action, drama and emotion, Jawan resonated deeply with audiences.
SRK’s intense performance, emotional depth, and mass appeal won hearts across generations — and now, a National Award too.
