The long-running legal dispute between Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has finally come to an end. On Friday, both parties withdrew their respective complaints before the Bandra magistrate court, officially closing the case.
Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation complaint against Kangana in 2020, accusing her of making false and damaging statements about him in a television interview. In response, Kangana filed a counter-complaint, alleging criminal intimidation, extortion, and outraging her modesty. The legal battle continued for five years before both sides agreed to settle through mediation.
Kangana announced the resolution on social media. She shared a picture with Javed Akhtar from the court on Instagram and wrote, “Today, Javed Ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. In the mediation, Javed Ji has been very kind and gracious. He also agreed to write songs for my next directorial.”
For those unaware, Kangana had earlier alleged that Javed Akhtar had called her to his house and pressured her to apologize to Rakesh Roshan and his family. She claimed he warned her of serious consequences, including jail and even being driven to suicide. Javed Akhtar denied the accusations, calling them completely false.
