Actress and Bigg Boss 20 contestant Kanika Mann recently opened up about her abusive relationship during a conversation with her housemates. The actress recalled how her first boyfriend turned out to be abusive, stalked her during college and threatened her. She also shared how she finally gathered the courage to seek police help and end the relationship.
Kanika revealed that she did not have a boyfriend until Class 12. However, when she moved to Chandigarh for her first year of college, she started feeling curious about relationships after seeing other girls in her hostel spend hours talking on the phone.
Recalling how her first relationship began, Kanika said, “I did not have a boyfriend until Class 12. When I went to Chandigarh for my first year, I felt free. I saw girls in my hostel talking on the phone all night. I did not really feel the need for a relationship, but I had FOMO. I thought, maybe I could have someone too. So I created a Facebook account, and the first boy who showed me some attention became my boyfriend.”
However, she soon realised that he was an abusive man. Kanika revealed that he would show up in her classes without informing her. She recalled how he once slapped her in front of other students because she wore a striped suit. He also threw her phone during a public gathering and threatened to call her father.
Kanika Reveals How She Ended the Abusive Relationship
Kanika shared that she had studied law for eight to nine months when her boyfriend followed her from the hostel to her department. He grabbed her hand and pulled her. She also revealed that he carried a knife inside his hoodie and made deep cuts on his own hand.
“I was scared that he could hurt me too, considering how abusive he had been,” Kanika said.
She then asked a boy named Arjun to call the police. The police arrived at the university within two minutes. Kanika finally found the courage to speak up and tell them everything.
“I felt strength for the first time because I realised that he was also afraid of something. So I told the police everything,” she recalled.
Kanika revealed that the police took her boyfriend away and he spent two to three days in jail. However, his family and relatives later threatened her.
The actress also feared how her reserved family would react. However, she said, “Thanks to my family, when I told them the truth, they really supported me.”
