Veteran actor Satish Shah, best known for his iconic comic roles on television and in films, passed away at the age of 74. The actor breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai due to kidney failure on October 25th. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by filmmaker Ashok Pandit, who shared an emotional note on social media mourning the actor’s demise.
Ashok Pandit wrote, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja hospital where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti 🙏🏼”
Satish Shah’s funeral turned into a deeply emotional moment as his Sarabhai vs Sarabhai family came together to bid him a heartfelt goodbye. His co-stars Rupali Ganguly, Sumeet Raghvan, Rajesh Kumar, Deven Bhojani, and others paid tribute to him in a unique and touching way. The cast sang the title track of their iconic sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai” one last time near his pyre — a gesture that left everyone teary-eyed.
Actor Rajesh Kumar shared the emotional video on Instagram with the caption, “The final bye.. could not have been complete without #Sarabhai song.. LONG LIVE INDU.. Kaka did you hear.. I also tried to sing😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻” referring lovingly to Satish Shah’s character, Indravadan Sarabhai, fondly called “Indu” on the show.
Satish Shah became a household name with the classic TV sitcom “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi” (1984) and later immortalized the character of Indravadan Sarabhai in “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai” (2004). His impeccable comic timing and relatable portrayals made him one of Indian television’s most beloved actors.
Apart from TV, he was also known for memorable roles in Bollywood blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Main Hoon Na.
The industry and fans are mourning the loss of this legendary actor whose laughter will forever echo through his timeless performances.
