The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, concluding that the actor died by suicide and that no foul play was involved. The report was submitted before a special court in Mumbai, which will now decide whether to accept it or order further investigation.
Sushant’s Tragic Demise and Initial Investigation
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. The Mumbai Police initially ruled it a case of suicide, citing reports of the actor suffering from depression. However, his sudden death led to widespread speculation and allegations, with his family and fans demanding a deeper probe.
Following public outcry, the Bihar Police registered an abetment to suicide case based on a complaint by Sushant’s father, K K Singh, who accused his son’s girlfriend, actress Rhea Chakraborty, and others of financial fraud and mental harassment. The case was later transferred to the CBI in August 2020 after the Supreme Court’s intervention.
CBI’s Investigation and Findings
The CBI examined various angles, including homicide, financial fraud, and professional rivalry. The agency conducted multiple forensic analyses, questioned several individuals, including Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and others from the film industry. However, no substantial evidence supporting foul play was found.
Parallel investigations were carried out by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on financial irregularities and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) regarding drug use in Bollywood. The NCB arrested Rhea Chakraborty and several others in a drug-related case linked to Sushant’s death. She was later granted bail.
Sushant’s Legacy and Bollywood Journey
Sushant gained fame with Ekta Kapoor’s TV show Pavitra Rishta, where he starred alongside Ankita Lokhande. He later transitioned to Bollywood, making his debut with Kai Po Che in 2013. He delivered successful performances in films like Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath, and Chhichhore. His last film, Dil Bechara, was released posthumously on an OTT platform.
With the CBI now concluding its investigation, the special court’s decision on the report is awaited. However, Sushant’s tragic demise continues to be a subject of emotional debate among his fans.
